Why do People Visit the Grand Canyon
I think the main reason why people visit the Grand Canyon is because it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is a natural phenomenon that goes beyond our understanding of nature over time. We love to see beautiful things and want to be part of it. There are many reasons why people choose this adventure, and we’ll tell you why you need to experience it for yourself.
The Natural Beauty
The Grand Canyon is about 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and over one mile deep. With this much area, that’s a lot of beauty to explore. The Colorado River carves its way through the canyon leaving canyon walls with layers of colors. Orange, brown and red make up the layers that change colors in the different light of the day.
Outdoor Adventures
People love to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. Hiking and biking are great activities inside the park. Take a stroll on the Rim Trail or ride your bike along the South Rim. A rafting tour might be up your alley if you love being on the water.

Rich History
The park has museums with exhibits that only scratch the surface of the history of the Grand Canyon. It is believed that the canyon goes back more than 5 million years. It is the result of the Colorado River cutting its way through the land. Over time, various Native American tribes made their home in the Grand Canyon. They built cliff dwellings, farmed and hunted.
In 1901, the Santa Fe Railway began running trains from Williams to the South Rim. When cars became popular, then travelling by automotives became the primary mode of transportation to the canyon. In 1919, Woodrow Wilson established the Grand Canyon National Park.
Today, we get to visit this fantastic place with millions of other visitors each year.
The Sunsets
Seeing the sunset is another reason why people want to go to the Grand Canyon. The sunsets are unforgettable.
